Welcome to the School

The creation of the new School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering provides opportunities for research and teaching at the interface between science and engineering. The collaboration between chemists and engineers provides a unique environment for collaborative research which is organised into three themes: Catalysis (CenTACat), Synthetic and Bioorganic Chemistry (SynBIOC), and Innovative Molecular Materials (IMM), with strong links to Environmental Science and Technology (see QUESTOR) and Green Chemistry (see QUILL). Extensive refurbishment of research and teaching laboratories has created a world-class working environment for students, researchers and staff.

The undergraduate courses are continually being developed to reflect the needs of both students and potential employers by creating opportunities to develop skills up on which to build a successful career. Courses are provided at both MSci and BSc level in Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry, both with the potential for a year in industry (“Professional Studies”), and MEng and BEng in Chemical Engineering  (a "sandwich" option is available). We also offer a BSc in Chemistry with Extended Studies in Europe and a BSc in Chemistry with Forensic Analysis. All our courses offer the opportunity to undertake a final year research project where students work in collaboration with one of the Research Groups in the School.
